- Benelli increases price of the Imperiale 400 by Rs 10,500
- Was launched in October 2019 at Rs 1.69 lakhs (ex-showroom)
- Competes against the Royal Enfield Classic 350
Benelli has hiked the price of its modern classic offering, the Imperiale 400, by Rs 10,500 in India. After launching the motorcycle in October 2019 at Rs 1.69 lakhs, the company has now increased the price to Rs 1,79,500 (ex-showroom). The prime reason for the hike is the increased material cost in China where the components of the motorcycle are manufactured.
The Imperiale 400 is Benelli’s take on the highly-popular Royal Enfield Classic 350 in India. It boasts of a similar retro-inspired styling with a round headlamp, dual-pod instrument cluster, peanut-shaped fuel tank, split seat and alloy wheels. Also, in terms of features, the motorcycle is similar to the Classic 350 with bare basic equipment such as conventional headlamp and tail lamp along with analogue instrument cluster with a small digital unit.
Clinging on to its double cradle frame is a 374cc, single-cylinder SOHC motor which had managed to impress us with its less vibey character. You can read about that in our first ride review here. It churns out 20.7bhp of power and 29Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. The motorcycle is suspended by telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is taken care of by disc brake at both ends, assisted by dual channel ABS.
The price hike on the Benelli Imperiale 400 has come ahead of the imminent BS6 transition which will make it further expensive. According to our sources, the BS6 model of the motorcycle is expected to be launched sometime around April 2020 in India.
