DSK Motowheels has confirmed that the Benelli Leoncino is slated to arrive in India this festive season. It was first showcased at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show and was expected to be one the three bikes to be launched this year.
In our recent interview with Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman, DSK Motowheels, he stated that they are gearing up for the launch of the Leoncino Scrambler. The Indian version will get street bike tyres and ABS as standard, while carrying forward other features from the global model. The Benelli Leoncino is powered by a newly developed 499.6cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled mill that produces 47.6bhp at 8,500rpm and 45Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. This engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission.
The biggest USP of this motorcycle is its looks, featuring a retro styled round headlamp with the U-shaped LED DRL, LED side indicators and tail lamp. These features complement the minimal bodywork bolted on to the steel trellis frame. A nicely sculpted seat adds to the overall aesthetics. The bike comes equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a twin exhaust muffler amongst other features. It also includes meaty 50mm USB front forks and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock suspension at the rear. Furthermore, braking performance comes from 320mm front and 260mm rear discs with radial mounted calipers. The spoked wheels complete the package.
As you can see from the pictures, the looks of the Leoncino will surely attract a lot of buyers. Amongst the current segment of mid-weight motorcycles, the Benelli Leoncino comes across as being different. Since it will be locally assembled in India, we can expect a competitive price for this premium looking bike. That said, it can also serve as an affordable alternative to the Ducati Scrambler, which also boasts of similar retro-modern styling and riding fun.
