Benelli has showcased the TRK 502 and the Tornado 302 at the 2016 India Bike Week in Vagator, Goa. While the motorcycles haven’t been launched yet, Mr Shirish Kulkarni, chairman, DSK Motowheels, corroborated the company’s plans of launching these bikes in this year.
The Benelli TRK 502 is an adventure touring motorcycle, which aims to kick off a completely new segment in the Indian market. The TRK 502 is powered by a 500cc parallel twin engine, which delivers 47bhp and 45Nm of torque. While an Indian customer looking for a middleweight tourer has multiple options, the market space for something smaller and less powerful (read, intimidating) doesn’t exist. With the TRK 502, Benelli aims to fill this void.
The Tornado 302 on the other hand, will be the first fully faired motorcycle in the Italian marque’s Indian line-up. The Tornado 302 is a supersport version of the TNT 300 and is based on the same twin-cylinder platform. This powertrain delivers 36bhp and peak torque of 27Nm through a six-speed transmission.
Both the Tornado 302 and the TRK 502 will be locally assembled for the Indian market at DKS Motowheels’ factory in Wai, Maharashtra. While the Tornado 302 is expected to be launched by July, the TRK 502 will go on sale in the festive season.
