The Benelli TNT 25 has been launched in India at Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The solitary single-cylinder model in Benelli's Indian line-up, the TNT 25 has been positioned below the TNT 300 as a rival to the KTM Duke 200 and the Mahindra Mojo.
Built around a steel trestle frame, the TNT 25 draws inspiration from the bigger siblings from the Benelli line-up. The vertically elongated headlamp, the sculpted fuel tank, exposed chassis, tall straightbar, meaty front forks and the stubby exhaust all scream 'streetfighter'. The instrument cluster gets an analogue tachometer paired to a digital display. The 250cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine acts as a stressed member for the chassis, and delivers 28bhp and 22Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. The front wheel rides on 41mm USD forks, while the rear swingarm is linked to a monoshock. The 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels get a 280mm disc brake upfront, and a 240mm disc brake in the rear.
While the TNT 25 made its Indian debut at the India Bike Week in February, this year, Benelli had stopped short of launching the motorcycle in the country. Entry-level motorcycles like the TNT 25 carry the responsibility of generating volumes for the brand and that requires a strong dealer network and an established brand image. Having opened 14 showrooms across major cities in the past year, Benelli now has a decently spread out dealership network in the country. Thanks to its CKD operations, Benelli has been able to price its products competitively, helping the brand perform exceptionally in certain regions across the country.
With the TNT 25, Benelli will try to replicate its success in the middleweight segment by luring customers with its exotic brand image and the attractive price tag. Benelli is also offering a premium version of the TNT 25 priced at Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), equipped with Metzeler tyres. The TNT 25 is available in two paint schemes – red and white.
