Benelli TRK 502 adventure motorcycle has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The motorcycle was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo and the India launch is expected by early 2019.
There had been various reports in the past hinting at its launch in India and it was expected to debut here in early 2018. However, Benelli’s separation from its previous partner, DSK Motowheels, resulted in a halt in its India operations which in turn delayed the launch of the TRK 502 till now. Now, the company has partnered with the Mahavir Group and is set to restart operations in India soon.
The Benelli TRK 502 in the pictures is an off-road version with spoke wheels and dual-purpose tyres. The company also has a road-biased model but that will come here at a later stage. The adventure version rides on a 19-inch spoke wheel on the front and 17-inch wheel at the rear. It gets 50mm upside down front forks and adjustable rear monoshock while braking is handled by a pair of 320mm front discs and a 260mm rear disc along with the dual-channel ABS.
The Benelli TRK 502 is powered by a 500cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that churns out 47bhp of power and 45Nm of torque. This motor works in unison with a six-speed gearbox. It sports a 20-litre fuel tank for longer range while the crash guards, pannier frame and luggage carrier add to its touring credentials.
The motorcycle is expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 6 lakhs and it will compete with the Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT in India.
