BMW CE 02 electric scooter: What to expect

-Launch during the festive season

-Will sit below the recently launched BMW CE 04

The BMW CE 02 is expected to launch in India soon, sometime around the festive season. It will follow in the footsteps of the recently launched CE 04 electric scooter. The CE 02 presents itself as a purpose-built urban runabout and here are more details about the EV.

Focused design

The CE 02 is designed to be a very functional, easy-to-ride, lightweight electric scooter. That is very clear in the way it has been designed. It looks like the designers made the bike around a battery and electric motor. This explains the lack of conventional body panels, so to speak. There’s an LED headlight, a tail light, and a ‘hoverboard’ shaped seat. That’s about it.

The stance of the scooter is like that of a moto scooter and is reminiscent of the Honda Navi that was once on sale.

Motor and batteries

The CE 02 is powered by an air-cooled synchronous motor. It has a 2kWh battery and customers can choose to have a single or twin battery setup. This translates to 90km of range and 95kmph top speed or a 45km range and 45kmph top speed depending on the battery setup that one chooses

The chassis

The CE 02 employs a double loop steel frame that is suspended by a USD and an adjustable monoshock. The scooter rides on 14-inch wheels shod with tubeless tyres. Braking duties are taken care of by a 239mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear.

Features

In terms of features, the bike gets two ride modes- Surf and Flow. There’s an electric reverse gear as well. The instrument cluster is a 3.5-inch micro TFT display with basic connectivity. Other conveniences include USB-C charging, keyless ride and single-channel ABS.

Expected pricing

The CE 02 is made by TVS in India at their Hosur plant. That said, the CE 02 will be priced at a premium considering the badge it wears. We expect it to sit above the BMW G 310 range of bikes, somewhere between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
