- Most expensive electric scooter in India
- Has a 15kW electric motor
- Bookings are open
The BMW CE 04 electric scooter has been launched in India at Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With this scooter, the German manufacturer has forayed into the electric two-wheeler space in the country. It must be said that while BMW’s electric cars have been on sale in India for a while, BMW Motorrad has taken its own sweet time to launch an EV. Nevertheless, the CE 04 is here and here is what it packs.
The scooter is powered by a 31kW (maximum output) electric motor that makes 41bhp and 61Nm. BMW claims that the scooter can only accelerate from 0-50kmph in 2.6s and hit a top speed of 120kmph. Many electronics, including ride modes, a 10.25-inch TFT and traction control, keep everything in check.
An 8.5kWh battery in the scooter offers a range of 130km before it needs to be plugged in and recharged. Speaking of, the time taken for the battery to be topped up is a little over four hours. If you think that’s too much time, then BMW will supply a fast charger at an extra cost that drops the charging time to an hour and forty minutes.
Perhaps, while charging the CE 04, one could pass time admiring the design for it looks futuristic in every sense of the word. The way the body panels have been styled, the shape and utility of the bench-like seat, or design elements like the small windscreen, or the wheels and the offset monoshock; come together to give the CE 04 a very attractive design. It will turn heads wherever it goes.
Under those sci-fi bike-styled body panels, there is a steel double loop frame, with a single-bridge telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided swingarm with a directly hinged suspension strut at the rear. The scooter rides on 15-inch wheels while 265mm discs at both ends are what bring it to a stop. ABS is standard.
At present, the scooter is available in one variant and only in the following colours- Imperial Blue and Light White. Bookings have begun and deliveries will commence shortly.
