BMW Motorrad has debuted its first electric scooter in India, the CE 04. Apart from being the first EV from the German bikemaker, it is also the most expensive one currently. Here are five things you must know about it.
Futuristic Design
Although slightly polarizing, it's quite evident that the BMW CE 04 has a very futuristic design approach. It gets large body panels and looks quite big too. The headlight on the CE 04 seems to have taken inspiration from the C 400 GT but tweaked. The CE 04 gets a single-piece seat with a two-tone colour. BMW is offering the CE 04 in two colour options – Imperial Blue and Light White.
Feature Loaded
Along with its modern design, the BMW EV also comes with a bunch of electronic aids including traction control, ABS, full LED illumination, a 10.25-inch TFT, keyless operation, three ride modes (eco, rain, road), intelligent emergency call, reverse gear, and type-C USB port. Further, BMW also offers a bunch of other optional accessory add-ons.
Battery and Motor
Powering the BMW CE 04 is a 15kW motor with a maximum output of 31kW. It is linked to an 8.5kWh battery that offers 130km of range. The CE 04’s top speed is capped at 120kmph. BMW offers the scooter with a standard 2.3kW charger and also offers a fast charger with a rating of 6.9kW.
Hardware
The entire structure sits on a steel double-loop frame. It is suspended on telescopic front forks with 110mm travel and an offset monoshock. The braking hardware for the CE 04 comprises a dual 265mm front and a single 265mm rear disc mounted on 15-inch wheels wrapped in a 120/70 front and a 160/60 rear tyre. The CE 04 tips the scale at 231kg, which isn’t light by any standards.
Price
The asking price for the BMW CE 04 is set at Rs. 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). There is no direct rival to the BMW electric scooter as it demands an asking price which is multi-fold higher than the mass market offerings.
