The BMW CE 04 electric scooter went on sale recently and its Rs 14.90 lakh, ex-showroom, price tag makes it the most expensive scooter on the market. The CE 04 packs a 15KW motor that propels the scooter from 0-50kmph in 2.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 120kmph. It has a 8.5kWh battery that offers a range of 130km and takes a little over four hours to charge. The CE 04 is expensive but going by how well the C 400 GT petrol-powered scooter did for BMW, the CE 04 should appeal to a customer base that wants a futuristic-looking scooter from a premium manufacturer. However, if you have money in the vicinity of Rs 15 lakh, here are your other options.
BMW C 400 GT (Rs. 11.25 lakh )
The C 400 GT is a maxi-scooter and it looks every bit like one. Its design, size and resultant road presence are some of the primary reasons why it was lapped up in numbers higher than what BMW anticipated. Not to mention the badge value that BMW commands. The scooter has a 350cc engine that makes 33.5bhp at 7,500rpm and 35Nm at 5,750rpm.
The scooter has ample boot space, comfortable ergonomics and ride while the engine is good enough to propel the scooter to triple digit speeds.
Suzuki Hayabusa (Rs 16.90 lakh, ex-showroom)
The Hayabusa is a legend and if you’ve got even an iota of interest in two-wheelers, you’ll know the reverence that the bike enjoys. Its inline-four engine is gem and is so flexible that you could sit at either 70kmph or 300kmph in sixth gear, as and when the opportunity presents itself. For all the firepower that the Hayabusa packs, it is quite comfortable and has one of the best suspensions in the business. The handling belies its weight and while the styling is best described as unique, considering its great blend of form and function.
Ducati Supersport (Rs 16.05 lakh, ex-showroom)
Another premium offering that one can look at is the Ducati Supersport. This beautiful, Italian motorcycle mixes a beautiful, supersport design with everyday useability. It does so by offering sporty yet comfortable ergonomics. The famed.L-twin engine in the bike is characterful, has a punchy midrange and handles Indian traffic conditions, albeit while running a little hot. But it never gets to the point of becoming unbearable.
