The BMW F 900 GS is all set to be launched in India in a few days. The ADV replaces the F850 GS and features quite a few yet notable changes.
New design
The BMW F 900 GS looks markedly different from its predecessor. The headlight is new, compact and resembles the unit on the BMW G 310 GS. The fairing is new as well and it has a slimmer profile. This seems to be the order of the segment with competitors like the Triumph Tiger 900 adopting a similar, easy to manage size. In fact, the F 900 GS looks more purposeful, almost rally bike style, especially with the exposed subframe.
Bigger engine
BMW has upped the displacement of the parallel-twin engine from 853cc to 895cc. It makes 105bhp at 8500rpm and 93Nm at 6750rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The increased size, power and the 14kg weight distribution should translate to a quicker and more manageable motorcycle, both for riding on-road and off-road.
Features and colours
The bike has two ride modes- Rain and Road, Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro and more. All the functions can be adjusted via menus displayed on a TFT screen. The bike is available in three colours-Sao Paulo Yellow, Black Storm Metallic and Light White/ Racing Blue/ Metallic Red.
Expected price and competition
Pricing is going to be quite important for BMW to go up against established competitors like the Triumph Tiger 900. We expect the price to begin around Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom.
