The BMW F 900 GS has gone on sale in India. This motorcycle replaces the F 850 GS and features design tweaks as well as a bigger, more powerful engine. Here are its top five highlights.
New design
The BMW F 900 GS features a different design than the outgoing F 850 GS. The headlight, most notably, is new and reminiscent of the LED headlight on the BMW G 310 GS. The fairing is new as well and it has a slimmer profile. The bike looks close to what a rally bike would look like, especially when you look at the exposed subframe.
Bigger engine
The BMW F 900 GS is powered by an 895cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that makes105bhp at 8500rpm and 93Nm at 6750rpm. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Considering the increase in power and the 14kg weight reduction over its predecessor, the F 900 GS should offer better performance.
Features
BMW has loaded the F 900 GS with a host of features. The list includes two ride modes - Rain and Road, Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro and more. All the functions can be adjusted via menus displayed on a TFT screen.
Chassis
Coming to the chassis, the F 900 GS employs a bridge-type frame that is suspended by a USD fork and a monoshock. The bike rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear, tubeless, wire-spoke wheels. Braking duties are taken care of by a pair of discs at the front and a disc at the rear. The kerb weight stands at 226kg.
Price and competition
The BMW F 900 GS is available in two variants including Style Passion (Sao Paulo Yellow) and GS Trophy (Lightweight/Racing Blue Metallic). The bike is available at a starting price of Rs 13.75 lakh. It goes up against the Triumph Tiger 900 range which begins at Rs 14.15 lakh.
