BMW Motorrad's vast product portfolio offers the R 1200 R in the Roadster series and the S 1000 XR in the Adventure Sport series. Now, to make these genres of motorcycles more accessible, the Bavarian-based bike manufacturer has unveiled its middle-weight versions in the form of the F 900 R and the F 900 XR at the on-going 2019 EICMA event in Milan. According to BMW, these new middle-weight products are designed for experienced sports riders and newcomers.
Starting with the F 900 R, this motorcycle follows an imposing Roadster design featuring a beefy front section with sculpted tank extensions and a compact headlamp unit. A stubby tail section on the rear gives an aggressive stance to the motorcycle.
Moving to the F 900 XR, it borrows design and dynamic aspects from the litre-class S 1000 XR. The motorcycle is aimed at adding an uncompromised factor of sportiness when it comes to touring. The F 900 XR has a sporty riding stance that is combined with the upright riding dynamics of the GS. Besides that, the motorcycle comes with top-class features like adaptive cornering lighting, keyless ride or intelligent emergency call to name a few. Both motorcycles come equipped with a 6.5-inch TFT screen and adaptive cornering light with LED lighting as standard.
In the case of the motor, the bikes are powered by the same 853cc unit that is used in the F 850 GS sold in India. However, the displacement has been increased to 895cc and is now capable of producing 103.5bhp, accompanied by a taller torque curve. In the electronics department, the bikes come with Rain and Road riding modes as standard. Meanwhile, the Dynamic and Dynamic Pro riding modes are available along with riding aids like Dynamic Traction Control DTC, banking capable ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the new engine drag torque control (MSR).
As for the colour options, the F 900 R is available in Blackstorm Metallic, San Marino Blue metallic and Style Sport in Hockenheim Silver metallic/Racing Red. The F 900 XR, on the other hand, is available in two Style variants of Style Exclusive in Galvanic Gold metallic and Sport in Racing Red.
Considering the presence of F 750 GS and F 850 GS in the Indian market, there is a high possibility that BMW will bring these models to Indian shores.
