BMW Motorrad recently launched the F750GS in the India. The bike is the Bavarian manufacturer’s player in the sub-1000cc, road-biased, adventure touring arena. So far, the Triumph Tiger XRx ruled the roost in this market space. What new does the F750GS bring to the table?
Design and features
The BMW F750GS follows the trademark ‘GS’ styling elements and borrows its design language from the previous models. However, the bike now sports an edgy tank, and a sharper fairing. The design’s most distinctive feature is the LED headlamp with its unique-looking LED DRL. The F750GS sports a small visor unlike its off-road focused sibling.
The Tiger 800 XRx too is inclined towards long-distance touring rather than being a dedicated off-roading motorcycle. It gets a wide, sculpted fairing that feature the distinctive twin-headlamp setup. Triumph has equipped the Tiger 800XRx with knuckle guards and a tall windscreen, which are missing on the BMW.
While the F750GS gets a 6.5-inch TFT screen as an instrument console, the Triumph Tiger 800 XRx makes do with an analogue tachometer along with and LCD display.
Electronics
BMW has equipped the F750GS with a dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire throttle, cruise control, quickshifter, traction control, and four riding modes- Road, Rain, Dynamic and Enduro.
On the other hand, the Triumph Tiger XRx is loaded with switchable ABS and traction control as standard which can be set to three-modes and four throttle maps. Further, it also gets three riding modes. These include- Road, Off-Road and a third mode allows the rider to select and customize the settings they prefer.
Cycle parts
Both bikes ride on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. Braking on the BMW F750GS is done by twin 305mm discs upfront and a large 265mm single-disc at the rear. The Tiger 800 XRx gets bigger 308mm discs in the front and a 255mm disc at the rear.
The BMW F750Gs rides on 41mm upside down forks for the front with 151mm of travel and a rear preload and rebound adjustable monoshock with 177mm travel. The Tiger 800 XRx uses 43mm upside down forks with a longer, 180mm of suspension travel. The rear end gets a preload adjustable monoshock with 170mm suspension travel.
The Tiger 800 XRx gets a seat height of 830mm. The BMW sports a 815mm seat height as standard. Both manufacturers offer an optional seat that lowers the seat height to 790mm.
With a fuel tank capacity of 18.5-litres the F750GS has a kerb weight of 224kg. Meanwhile, the Tiger 800 XRx is lighter with a kerb weight of 216kg and a fuel tank capacity of 19-litres.
Engine
The BMW F750GS uses a revised beam-type frame and tubular steel sub-frame with an 853cc parallel-twin engine as a stressed member. This unit produces 75bhp and 47Nm of torque.
The Tiger 800 XRx on the other hand is powered by an 800cc in-line three cylinder engine that is housed in a tubular steel trellis frame. It produces a higher 94bhp of power and 79Nm of torque as compared to the BMW F750GS.
Pricing
You can lay your hands on the BMW F750GS at Rs 12.2 lakh. While the current Tiger 800 XRx retails Rs 11.95 lakhs, the manufacturer will soon launch the updated Tiger 800 range in India with a slightly higher price tag.
