The BMW G 310 R has gone on sale in Malaysia with a price tag of RM 26,900 (Rs 4.02 lakhs). The G 310 R marks BMW Motorrad’s foray into the rapidly-growing small-capacity streetfighter segment.
The BMW G 310 R gets the characteristic aggressive look of a streetfighter, thanks to a raked headlamp, fuel tank extensions, exposed frame and the shrouds. The raised straight bars and the slightly rear set foot pegs offer the perfect balance of an upright yet sporty riding position. At the heart of the BMW G 310 R is a 311cc single-cylinder engine which churns out 34bhp and 28Nm of torque. The engine gets a unique architecture, where the cylinder head is rotated by 180 degrees so that the intake track is in the front. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission.
The BMW G 310 R is manufactured in TVS’ plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. While the motorcycle was scheduled to be launched in India in the early 2017, the company has now pushed it ahead to 2018. In a few global markets, the G 310 R has been priced lower than the KTM 390 Duke. It would be interesting to see whether BMW will be able to replicate this aggressive pricing strategy for the Indian market too.
