BMW unveiled the smallest member of its iconic GS family– the G310 GS last week at the EICMA Show in Italy. Based on the G310 R streetfighter, the G310 GS is targeted at those who want a commuter bike which can double up as a touring motorcycle. Here is a detailed photo gallery of the BMW G310 GS -
Bits like the raised fender with front ‘beak’, raised tail section and the fairing draw inspiration from the BMW R1200 GS.
The narrow profile and the upright seating should offer the G310 GS the versatility of being a decent commuter while being comfortable on long rides.
It gets a fully digital instrument console which displays gear position, fuel consumption, range, and average speed apart from other basic functionalities.
At 169 kilograms, the G310 GS is 11 kilograms heavier than the G310 R owing to the revision and reinforcements, for the chassis and the fairing.
Powering the G310 GS is a 313cc water-cooled single-cylinder engine, which delivers 33bhp and 28Nm of torque via a six-speed gearbox.
Suspension duties are handled by 41mm inverted front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. It gets clawed enduro-style footpegs.
A 300mm front disc and 240mm rear disc take care of braking. It also gets ABS which can be deactivated at the press of a button.
The G310 GS rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. BMW isn’t offering spoked wheels for now, which will limit its off-road capabilities.
Touring-friendly accessories like hard case panniers, top case, centre stand and GPS navigation devices are being offered as optional extras.
