With the market for adventure touring capacity motorcycles growing in India, BMW has finally decided to launch the G310 GS in the country. The bike will arrive in less than a month; 18 July to be specific. Here is what we can expect from the BMW G310 GS-
Design
The G310 GS’s design is heavily inspired by the BMW R 1200 GS; one of the most sought after adventure-touring motorcycle across the world. It gets edgy tank extensions, and a secondary ‘beak-like’ structure that flows into the design of the tank. However, unlike the asymmetrical headlamp of its bigger sibling the G310 GS sports a rather conventional looking unit. To boost its off-road and touring capabilities, the bike is equipped with an engine sump guard and luggage rack at the rear. The rest of the components are similar to the G310 R streetfighter.
Engine
The BMW G310 GS uses the same 313cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled engine as the G310 R and TVS Apache RR 310. It produces 34bhp and 28Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive.
Technology
BMW has equipped the bike with a dual-channel ABS as standard which can also be disengaged. It also gets an LCD instrument cluster that displays all basic information along with clock and gear position indicator.
Cycle Parts
It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in dual-purpose Metzeler Tourance tyres. It gets 41mm upside down front forks and a rear monoshock that is adjustable for preload similar to the streetfighter. However, the G310 GS benefits from a longer, 180mm suspension travel on both ends as opposed to the G310 R’s 140mm front and 131mm rear travel. Braking duties are taken care of by a 300mm disc for the front and a 240mm disc at the back. The bikes is equipped with an 11-litre fuel tank and tips the scales at 169.5kgs.
Pricing
The bike will be priced slightly higher than the G310 R, around Rs 3.7 lakhs. It will compete against the Kawasaki Versys X-300 as well as the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure which will arrive in 2019.
