The BMW G310 R is one of the most anticipated motorcycles slated for launch in India and was expected to launch by April 2017. Now, the launch of the motorcycle has been delayed to 2018, as the manufacturer seems to be facing trouble pricing the G310R competitively here.
The G310 R directly competes with the value-for-money, feature laden KTM 390 Duke and TVS’s flagship Apache RR 310 S. TVS will launch the Apache RR 310 S before the BMW, despite it being based on the G310 R, as it is easier to keep prices low thanks to the well-established local network of suppliers.
TVS motor’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu produces the BMW G310 R and exports it globally. The company has exported over 4,500 units of the motorcycle in the last quarter.
BMW G310 R is powered by a new 313 cc water-cooled, single cylinder engine offering 34bhp peak power at 9,500rpm and 28Nm peak torque at 7,500rpm while mated to a 6-speed transmission. It has a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres and a kerb weight of 158 kg.
The bike’s instrument cluster is an LCD unit offering a wide range of information. Braking is done via 300mm discs squeezed by four piston calipers in the front and a 240mm disc with single piston calipers at the rear. It also features upside down forks in the front and a monoshock at the rear and Michelin tyres as standard for the international market.
