- New G310R electric under development
- Likely to be manufactured by TVS
- Borrows tech from CE 04 e-scooter
BMW Motorrad has worked on a series of electric bikes in the past and is now planning to enter the entry-level segment.
According to leaked patent pictures, the German brand is developing an electric version of the G310R. The pictures show an electric powertrain neatly packed inside the compact frame of the G310R. However, the front wheel looks bigger and could have been borrowed from its adventure sibling – G310GS.
The German brand aims to harness most CE 04 electric scooter technology. Most components- electric motor, batteries, and control units - all have been borrowed from that electric scooter. It looks like BMW wants to keep the overall development costs in check, so it shares an e-scooter platform with an electric motorcycle.
If BMW intends to take this project on sale, TVS is likely to manufacture the electric G310R at its Hosur plant. Both companies could work together to create new EV platforms so that this alliance can fully use lower development costs and faster project roll-outs.
