The BMW G310R has gone on sale in the UK with a price tag of GBP 4,290 (Rs 3.88 lakh). First unveiled at the 2015 EICMA Show in Milan, the G310R marks BMW Motorrad’s foray into the rapidly growing entry-level roadster segment.
The raked headlamp, fuel tank extensions, exposed frame and the shrouds give the BMW G310R the quintessentially aggressive look of a streetfighter. The raised straight bars and the slightly rear set footpegs offer the perfect balance of a comfortable and sporty riding position. At the heart of the BMW G310R is a newly developed 311cc single-cylinder engine, which churns out 34bhp and 28Nm of torque. The engine gets a unique architecture, where the cylinder head is turned backwards by 180 degrees so the intake track is in the front.
The BMW G310R made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. With this pricing, BMW has outdone its chief rivals – the KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Z300 and the Yamaha MT-03 in the UK. As the BMW G310R is manufactured in TVS’ plant in Hosur, the motorcycle would sport a far lower price tag than its UK counterparts. It would be interesting to see whether BMW will be able to replicate this aggressive pricing strategy for the Indian market too.
