BMW Motorrad has been running into trouble multiple times with the US vehicle safety authorities in recent memory. It has now announced another recall, making it the seventh one in less than two months.
This recall is for improper rear-side reflectors on their international models- the F800GT and F800R. According to US vehicle safety authorities, the reflectors would not be visible in certain traffic conditions. These reflectors are mounted on rear-side of the number plate bracket and could be partially blocked by the exhaust, posing a safety risk. A total of 1,478 units of the motorcycles have been affected. This is also the second time the F800GT and F800R have been recalled for issues with the rear reflector. Earlier BMW had announced a recall for 30,000 bikes due to the issue.
To resolve the issue, BMW will contact owners and will reposition the reflectors free of charge. The past two months have been rough for BMW Motorrad with consecutive recalls, both major and minor. Even though recalls show that the manufacturer is diligent in fixing issues, seven recalls could be questionable.
