The wait is over! BMW Motorrad has finally made its way to India, officially. The company has launched its full range including the legendary R 1200 GS series which begins at Rs 15.90 lakh.
The R 1200 GS is available in three trim levels – standard priced at Rs 15.90 lakh, dynamic+ at Rs 19 lakh and pro at Rs 19.50 lakh. All these prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The R 1200 GS Adventure, a rugged brother to the R 1200 GS, has been priced at Rs 17.50 lakh and that’s just for the base version. The dynamic+ and the pro get a price tag of Rs 20.90 lakh and Rs 21.40 lakh respectively.
The R 1200 GS is the highest-selling adventure bike in the world and is also the highest-selling bike for BMW. This is possibly because the motorcycle itself has been built for the rider to travel the world and get through any possible obstacle. The R 1200 GS gets its power from 1170cc boxer engine that produces 125bhp at 7750rpm and peak torque of 125Nm at 6500rpm. This motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear-wheel via a shaft drive.
This German motorcycle is loaded with gizmos like Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, Dynamic ESA, LED headlights, keyless ignition and daytime riding lamps. The bike also sports a hill start control, riding modes, heated grips, tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and cruise control. The primary difference between the R 1200 GS and the R 1200 GS Adventure is the fuel tank, which is much bigger in the Adventure model at 30-litres. There’s also 20mm more suspension travel, higher ground clearance and added luggage capacity of 8kg. The seat height is much higher, but there are various seat options. All these additions have made the R 1200 GS Adventure heavier by 22kgs at 259kg.
BMW Motorrad India will sell the R 1200 GS bikes through its four dealers – Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad. The bikes will be sold as a completely-built-up (CBU) units from Germany.
