BMW is likely to launch the F750GS and F850GS in India at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Bavarian manufacturer had unveiled the adventure bikes at the 2017 EICMA show in Italy.
Both the F750GS and F850GS feature styling similar to their predecessors although they get a redesigned sharper fairing. The bikes also get a new LED headlamp setup and a 6.5-inch TFT screen that serves as an instrument console. The fuel-tank is now situated in the conventional position rather than the earlier, under-the-seat tank. The bikes use a revised beam-type frame and tubular steel sub-frame with the 853cc parallel-twin engine as a stressed member. Interestingly, both the F750GS and F850GS use the same engine however with different power outputs. The F750GS gets 75bhp while the F850GS gets a 93bhp power output.
Even though both the bikes are based on the same platform, they offer different capabilities. While the F850GS gets spoke wheels with dual-sport tyres, knuckle guards, fork protectors and a taller windscreen to make it off-road capable, the F750GS is built specifically for the road and gets alloy wheels with road biased tyres. The bikes’ electronic package includes ABS, cruise control, quickshifter, traction control, four riding modes with an additional ‘Enduro Pro’ mode on the F850GS.
BMW has their best-selling R 1200 GS in the adventure bike category that competes with the likes of the Tiger 1200 Explorer and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 that is available in India. However, it does not have bikes to rival the Tiger 800 range and the smaller Ducati Multistrada 950. That will change once the F750GS and F850GS is launched in India by early next year.
