BMW Motorrad has launched its latest streetfighter offering, the M 1000 R. The bike has been launched in two trims – standard and Competiton. Here’s what it gets.
On the design front, the M 1000 R sports a single pod headlight with a muscular fuel tank. The overall design looks enticing and butch. It even gets large tank extensions that protrude at the front and add to the visual appeal. The bike’s equipped with a flat and wide handlebar and a two-piece seat. The Competition variant, too, looks the same, but it is draped in the Bavarian brand’s signature colours – black, red, and blue.
Powering the M 1000 R is a 999cc, inline, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that makes 212bhp and 113Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox and benefits from a slip-and-assist clutch and BMW’s ShiftCam technology. There’s a host of rider aids to put a leash on the 212 horses, such as ride modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and Race 1 to 3), traction control, wheelie control, ABS, engine brake control, launch control, and more. All these can monitored from the 6.5-inch TFT screen.
BMW has equipped the M 1000 R with 45mm USD front forks and a monoshock. Both get preload, rebound, and compression adjustability. Meanwhile, the braking hardware comprises 320mm dual front discs and a single 220mm rear disc with ABS. The setup is linked to aluminium forged wheels for the standard model and carbon wheels for the M model. Both are shod to 120/70 front and 200/55 rear tyres.
The Competition variant also gets an M rider footrest system, M Carbon parts such as a rear wheel cover and chain guard, front wheel cover, tank covers, airbox cover with tapes, wind deflector, sprocket cover, the M pillion package as well as the M pillion cover, and a milled, fully adjustable M rider footrest.
The asking price for the M 1000 R standard variant is Rs. 33 lakh and that for the M 1000 R Competition is Rs. 38 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). The new BMW offering rivals the Ducati Streetfighter V4, Kawasaki Z H2, and the Aprilia Tuono V4.
