BMW Motorrad recalls 2012-2013 S1000RR motorcycles

BMW Motorrad has recalled S1000RR motorcycles in US which have been manufactured between September 2011 and December 2012. The recall is due to a side-stand issue.

A total of 2,385 units have been affected due to this recall. These motorcycles’ side-stand attachment bolts might get loose, leading to the risk of the stand separating from the motorcycle frame and the motorcycle might fall.

BMW Motorrad will clean the side-stand mounting plate’s threads and replace the side-stand mounting bolts free of charge. The HP4 variant is not affected by this recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has asked all the dealers to stop selling this motorcycle immediately. 

A few weeks ago, on two occasions, BMW had recalled the K1200 and R series due to brake fluid and fuel leak issues respectively. We are not sure whether this recall will affect Indian owners, as the S1000RRs sold here are imported as CBUs from Germany.
