BMW Motorrad has put out a recall of 29,281 bikes in United States due to an issue with the optional aluminium luggage cases.
These optional luggage cases may block the view of the bikes’ rear reflectors. Due to this, the affected bikes fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." This recall affects BMW’s seven motorcycles. 2014-2017 R1200GS Adventure, 2013-2017 BMW R1200GS, F800R, and F800GT motorcycles. The 2016-2017 S1000XR, 2015-2017 R1200R and R1200RS motorcycles are a part of this recall too.
The German manufacturer is in process of contacting the affected customers. The company has asked its dealers to install reflectors on the cases or install an additional bracket on the case mounts for the reflectors. Both these works will be done free of charge.
