Since it made its debut last year, BMW Motorrad sold 252 motorcycles in the Indian market. The sales were achieved in the last nine months of 2017.
The number might seem miniscule in comparison with other premium manufacturers, but it is worth noting that the company’s motorcycles command a really high premium. The BMW range starts at Rs 14.9 lakh for the R 1200 R, going all the way up to Rs 29 lakh for the K 1600 B (both ex-showroom). Besides, the company has limited penetration with just seven dealerships across the country.
Nevertheless, we can expect to see the G 310 R go on sale this year. This mass-market model will be priced competitively against the KTM 390 Duke, and should give the sales a shot in the arm. We can also expect BMW to launch a slew of new showrooms in major cities to improve its footprint.
