- Develops autonomous self-riding R1200GS
- Start, turns, braking – all done by the bike
BMW Motorrad has just unveiled a self-riding motorcycle concept. It’s called the ConnectedRide self-driving motorcycle, this new concept has been developed to improve the overall rider safety.
In the teaser video, the BMW R1200 GS is seen on the move by itself. It started on its own, leaned into turns and also braking was done by the motorcycle. The company wants to bring in more technologies into its motorcycle that can bring more stability in critical situations.
The German bike maker claims that this concept has been developed to help engineers integrated some safety technologies with the rider’s skills, which will help the rider be safe in almost all riding conditions.
We are expecting the learnings from this concept to makes way to some productions bikes in the next few years. Just like BMW, there are other manufacturers like KTM and Ducati who are also working on many rider aid technologies. So we can expect all these companies to show us something really feasible in two to three years.
