BMW Motorrad is going to launch the K 1600 B and the R nineT Racer on 24 November, during the India Bike Week at Goa.
The K 1600 B is a faired bagger motorcycle, featuring a stretched wheelbase and laid-back riding position. The windshield is electronically adjustable, while the fairing gets additional grooves to improve wind deflection. The K 1600 B is powered by a 1,649cc inline six-cylinder engine, which produces 158bhp and 175Nm of torque. The list of optional extras includes a quickshifter for the six-speed gearbox, as well as a reverse gear. The K 1600 B can be ridden in three riding modes - dynamic, road, and rain. Dynamic electronic suspension adjusts the damping according to road surface.
But if you aren’t a fan of heavy cruisers, fret not. For BMW will also launch the R nineT Racer during the IBW. A stripped down version of the R nineT, this motorcycle features a retro cowl inspired by the racing motorcycles from the 1950s. The aluminium tank is swapped for a steel tank, and the inverted front forks have been replaced with telescopic units. Powering the R nineT Racer is the same 1170cc air-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine, which delivers 110bhp and 116Nm of torque.
Big bagger motorcycles have a huge following in the American market, and have been slowly gaining popularity in India too. While the Honda Goldwing is no longer on sale in India, the K 1600 B will still have to compete against the Indian Roadmaster and the Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. The R nineT Racer on the other hand, is a rival to the Triumph Thruxton R and the Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 8V.
