The BMW R 12 recently went on sale in India and presents itself as a classic cruiser motorcycle. The R 12 is aimed at those who want that retro yet characterful design in their motorcycles and to an extent the experience of a boxer twin engine. Here are the details of the bike in images.
The design of the BMW R12 is visually appealing and the neo-retro theme is nicely executed. We like the proportions of the fuel tank, the low-set rider’s seat and the curved rear fender. Other design elements like the round LED headlight and the cool-looking bar end mirrors are also very neatly done.
Powering the R 12 is a 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled boxer twin motor. It produces 95bhp at 6,500rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
As for the chassis, the R 12 has a new tubular bridge steel space frame and the company says that it is significantly lighter than the frame in the previous model. Suspension duties are taken care of by USD fork and a Paralever rear swing arm, while the rear spring strut is attached at an angle with revised travel-dependent damping.
BMW has kitted the bike with a host of safety features that includes dual-channel ABS and Dynamic Traction Control or DTC. There are two ride modes, ‘Rock’ and ‘Roll’ that adjust the power delivery and help the rider keep the bike in control.
At Rs 19.90 lakh, ex-showroom, this is an expensive proposition but for those with money no object or those looking for a German bike that stands out, this may be worth looking at.
