The BMW R 12 Nine T went on sale in India, a few days ago. This motorcycle is part of the Heritage line of the BMW Motorrad portfolio in India. The bike offers a unique flavor of modern-retro motorcycles and here’s a look at the bike in images.
The design of the R 12 Nine T is one of the most striking aspects. Bits like the beautifully shaped fuel tank, which by the way looks large, or the stepped seat, the circular headlight and the tiny tail section stand out. We like the way the big, boxer engine forms an integral part of the design. The detailing on the cylinder heads also points towards the attention to detail.
Speaking of the engine, the bike is powered by a 1,170cc, air and oil-cooled engine that makes 109bhp at 7,000rpm and 115Nm at 6,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Boxer twins are known for their characterful, grunty nature and this should be the case with the R 12 Nine T’s engine as well.
Under the beautiful bodywork, you’ve got a tubular steel bridge frame that is suspended by a USD fork and a paralever swingarm with a directly linked spring strut at the rear. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels while braking duties are taken care of by a pair of 310mm discs and a single 265mm disc at the rear.
In terms of electronics, there are three ride modes- Road, Rain and Dynamic. Each mode alters the throttle response and the traction control intervention levels. Additional features include cruise control and heated grips.
The bike is priced at Rs 20.20 lakh, ex-showroom, India. That makes it a pricey option when you consider competition like the Triumph Speed Twin.
