BMW Motorrad has confirmed via its social media handles that it will soon launch the BS6-compliant R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure in the Indian market. While the company has not announced a launch date, we expect to see the updated motorcycles on our shores by the end of June or early July 2021. Here we tell you what to expect from the upcoming, BS6-compliant BMW R 1250 GS and the R 1250 GS Adventure.
Design
The Euro5-compliant model is already available for sale in several international markets. The styling cues on the latest iteration of the motorcycle retain the rugged design comprising an asymmetric headlight design, a beak-style front, a semi-fairing layout, and an adjustable windscreen. The adventure tourer also packs features such as a large fuel tank, split-style seats, a tall-set exhaust, and a shaft-drive system.
Features
The India-spec model should remain identical to the international-spec model. Thus, expect the standard equipment on the India-bound R 1250 GS to includes full-LED lighting, Bluetooth-enabled TFT colour display, traction control system, ABS Pro, three ride modes (Eco, Road, and Rain), hill-start control, and a USB charging socket. The optional extras will include electronically-adjustable suspension, heated seats, Ride Pro modes (Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, Enduro and Enduro Pro), automated hill start control, dynamic brake assistant, and engine brake control.
Engine
The Euro5-compliant 1,254cc, air/liquid-cooled, flat-twin engine with BMW ShiftCam technology produces 134bhp of power at 7,750rpm and 143Nm of peak torque at 6,250rpm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The India-bound model will produce similar power and torque output numbers.
Hardware
The hardware will include the BMW Motorrad Telelever setup (telescopic forks with a central spring strut) at the front and a BMW Motorrad Paralever (mono-shock) at the back. The braking tasks would be handled by twin discs on the front wheel and a single rotor on the rear wheel. The standard BMW R 1250 GS will use alloy wheels while the more premium, Adventure variant will come equipped with tubeless-tyre compatible spoke wheels. Both variants will use a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup.
Expected Price
The upcoming BMW R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure should carry a marginal price premium over their respective BS4 variants. The BS4-compliant R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure were available at Rs 20.45 lakh and Rs 22.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India), respectively.
