BMW has launched its flagship adventure tourer motorcycle, the R 1250 GS, at Rs 16.85 lakhs (ex-showroom). The standard model is accompanied by three more versions including the R 1250 GS Adventure, Pro and Adventure Pro that are priced at Rs 18.25 lakhs, Rs 20.05 lakhs and Rs 21.95 lakhs, respectively. In a similar price range, there are a few alternatives which are worth considering before making the buying decision. Let’s take a look at them.
The BMW R 1250 GS faces competition from the Triumph Tiger 1200 and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro which boast of similar adventure-tourer styling and pricing. The Tiger 1200 is powered by a 1200cc, triple-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 139bhp of power and 122Nm of torque. Whereas, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro gets a 1198cc, twin-cylinder powerplant that is capable of putting out 157.8bhp and 136Nm. While the Ducati is priced at Rs 17.99 lakhs, the Triumph comes with a slightly lower price tag of Rs 17.13 lakhs. However, in case you crave for adventure but in a sporty way, BMW itself offers the S 1000 XR that costs Rs 17.50 lakhs. Powering the motorcycle is a 999cc motor that is good for 159.8bhp and 114Nm of torque.
If you are pondering over cruisers in this price range, there are three options which include the Indian Chief Dark Horse, Harley-Davidson Fat Boy 114 and the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic. The Indian Chief Dark Horse is a blacked-out version of the Chief Classic. It is powered by a 1811cc, air-cooled engine that generates 139Nm of torque and can be bought for Rs 18.81 lakhs. As for the Harleys, the Heritage Classic packs in a 1745cc motor and asks for Rs 20.12 lakhs while the burly Fat Boy 114 is powered by a humungous 1868cc mill and carries a price tag of Rs 19.79 lakhs. For those who want a cruiser with aggressive power delivery, Ducati has the Diavel which belts out 159bhp and 130Nm from its 1198.4cc engine.
Lastly, there are a range of lightning-fast track weapons in this segment which flaunt attention-grabbing looks. The list comprises of the Ducati Panigale V4, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, Suzuki GSX-R1000, BMW S 1000 RR, Yamaha YZF R1 and the Aprilia RSV4 RR.
