-Has a 30-litre aluminium fuel tank
-Gets new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA)
-India launch expected in a few months
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has been showcased to the world. The ‘Adventure’ in the name denotes that this motorcycle is the more globetrotting-ready sibling of the BMW R 1300 GS. It gets a bigger fuel tank and other standard features to ensure that covering a large number of kilometres in the saddle won’t be much of a challenge. Here’s what it has to offer.
Design
The R 1300 GS Adventure looks markedly different from the R 1300 GS. In comparison to the relatively sleeker and compact design of the latter, the ‘GS Adventure’ has a more boxy and functional design. It has more squared off edges, be it at the beak under the headlight, the fuel tank or the tail section.
What stands out is the 30-litre aluminium fuel tank that occupies pride of place in the overall scheme of the design. Its tank extensions fuse neatly and are quite chunky, giving the bike an imposing presence, especially when viewed from the front. It commands a lot more road presence than the R 1300 GS.
Features and tech
BMW has added a long list of features to the R 1300 GS as standard equipment. You’ve got all-LED lights with aux lights, Dynamic Traction Control, radar based adaptive cruise control, front and rear collision warning. There is also a smartphone charging compartment with an integrated USB socket and 12 V on-board power socket as standard.
The talking point, however, is the new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) that the bike gets. It consists of two electromechanical actuators to automate clutch control and shifting gears. This takes away the effort of changing gears constantly and thereby reducing rider fatigue.
Engine
Powering the R 1300 GS Adventure is a 1,300cc, Boxer twin makes 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. There are four ride modes- Eco, Rain, Road and Enduro to temper the power delivery and adjust the traction control intervention levels.
Hardware
The bike has a sheet metal main frame and aluminium lattice tube rear frame. This is suspended by BMW’s Telelever and Paralever EVO suspension units. The suspension can be electronically adjusted and Dynamic Suspension Adjustment or DSA comes as standard. The system combines the dynamic adjustment of the front and rear damping with adjustment of the spring rate, depending on which ride mode the bike is being ridden in.
Variants and launch
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is available in four variants-Basic, Triple Black, GS Trophy, Option 710 Karakorum.
The bike is expected to be launched in India in a few months and should cost a between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 26 lakh, ex-showroom.
