The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is all set to be unveiled to the world on 5 July. The ‘GS Adventure’ is based on the R 1300 GS, which by the way was recently launched in India, and is distinguished by its considerably larger tank capacity.
Bigger road presence
The R 1300 GS replaces the R 1250 GS and the latter was known for its big size and consequently its road presence. The R 1300 GS is comparatively slimmer and more athletic in its appearance. While some people may find this as a good thing, some may feel the R 1300 GS isn’t your typical ‘big ADV’. The R 1300 GS Adventure, should address this by way of its large fuel tank. Knowing BMW, expect the larger fuel tank to fuse well with the rest of the bike’s design seamlessly. Expect BMW to also introduce new colours and graphics to help distinguish the R 1300 GS Adventure from the R 1300 GS.
More range
A bigger fuel tank is going to translate to longer distances between fill ups. BMW is expected to fit a 30-litre fuel tank and that should translate to a range around 350-400km. More range means less time is spent filling petrol on long road trips. That in turn will improve your average speed which is crucial if you intend to cover big distances. A big tank range will also ease some of the anxiety related to finding a fuel pump while venturing off the beaten path.
Boxer engine
The R 1300 GS Adventure will feature the same,1,300cc Boxer engine that is present in the R 1300 GS. This engine makes 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
Same hardware and electronics as the R 1300 GS
The chassis and suspension hardware is likely to be the same as well. The bike has a telelever and paralever Evo suspension that can be electronically adjusted. The system allows the rider to change the damping characteristics of the bike to suit the road conditions. The braking system is also going to be the same as on the rest of the R 1300 GS adventure bike.
BMW is also likely to also offer a comprehensive electronics suite. It’ll include multiple ride modes, traction control settings and adaptive cruise control.
Expected price
While the prices of the R 1300 GS begin at Rs 23.55 lakh, ex-showroom, expect the R 1300 GS Adventure to be priced between Rs 25 lakh to 25.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
