- Recalled in the international market
- A malfunctioning relay is causing stalling, and more
- Bikes manufactured before 18 March 2024 will be a part of the recall
BMW has initiated a recall for the R 1300 GS in the international market due to a malfunctioning relay. The same has led to multiple instances of the bike stalling, and more. That said, the brand had earlier recalled the R 1300 GS in February as a part of the service campaign. However, the trouble still followed.
Even in the then-service campaign, the relay failure continues. However, the brand is replacing the semiconductor relay with a new electromechanical starter relay. Moreover, the R 1300 GS units manufactured before 18 March 2024 will only be a part of this recall. The newer models have already been equipped with the correct parts.
About 25,000 units seem to have been affected by the faulty relay setup. But along with the hardware change, the R 1300 GS will also need software tweaks. While the conventional electromechanical starter relay is already available, the software update to patch with the new addition will be offered in mid-August in the international market. So far, BMW has registered about 8 cases worldwide of bikes with melted or burnt starter relays.
The BMW R 1300 GS has just been launched in India and no such recall has been issued.
