BMW Motorrad has revealed the new R 18 Transcontinental luxury tourer for the international markets. The Bavarian two-wheeler brand already offers the standard R 18 in the Indian market, and we could see this version of the motorcycle on our shores in the future. While we await more details about the Indian launch of the R 18 Transcontinental, here is a detailed image gallery of the motorcycle.
The new BMW R 18 Transcontinental is designed for long-distance rides. Thus, it features a front fairing, a tall windshield, and flaps for wind protection.
The cockpit comprises of four analogue round instruments and a 10.25-inch TFT-colour display. The vehicle also benefits from the Marshall sound system, engine protection bars, side cases, a top case, seat heating, chrome trim, and an engine in Silver metallic.
The new BMW R 18 Transcontinental is available in four colours – Black, 719 Galaxy Dust Metallic, Manhattan Metallic Matte, and First Edition.
The mechanical specifications include a 1,802cc, twin-cylinder, boxer engine that makes 90bhp of maximum power at 4,750rpm and 158Nm of peak torque at 3,000rpm. BMW Motorrad claims that over 150Nm of torque is available from 2,000rpm to 4,000rpm.
The Dynamic Cruise Control comes as standard while the radar-based Active Cruise Control system is available as an optional extra.
The radar technology also brings cornering control system to the motorcycle that automatically reduces the speed. The system is aimed at providing the right speed for a comfortable and safe banking angle.
Standard features on the tourer include LED lighting, keyless operations, three riding modes (Rain, Roll, and Rock), Automatic Stability Control, engine drag torque control, and Hill Start Control. BMW Motorrad will offer several optional extras with the motorcycle.
