German suspension specialist Touratech has unveiled the BMW R1200 GS Rambler. 50 kilograms lighter and more off-road-focussed than a standard R1200 GS, the Rambler is being pegged as a successor to the BMW HP2 Enduro.
The BMW R1200 GS Rambler was developed to boost the standard bike’s off-roading capabilities. The first step in achieving this was to put the R1200 GS on a diet. The motorcycle was stripped of its stock fairing and luggage mounting brackets. It gets a custom airbox, slimmer seat, lithium-ion battery and lighter fairing and protection bars. It also gets an aluminium fuel tank and a separate plastic tank with a combined fuel capacity of 18 litres.
Under the skin is a 1170cc boxer engine mated to a six-speed gearbox with shaft drive. The engine delivers 123bhp, and breathes out through a titanium exhaust system. Touratech has replaced the telelever front forks with conventional inverted fork setup. The R1200 GS Ramblers gets a single-disc brake setup at the front, though ABS has been retained.
For now, only two prototypes have been created - one in the black-grey-yellow Touratech colour scheme and the other in classic BMW Motorsport livery. We do not expect the BMW R1200 GS Rambler to end up on our shores anytime soon. However, those aren’t intimidated by its weight can opt for the standard BMW R1200 GS for a little over Rs 25 lakh.
