- BMW R18 Classic based on R18 First Edition
- Costs Rs 1.5 lakh more and gets touring-friendly equipment
- Powered by the same 1800cc boxer-twin
The BMW R18 Classic is now available in India with a price tag of Rs 24 lakh, ex-showroom.
It costs a premium of Rs 1.5 lakh over the R18 First Edition- the motorcycle it is based on. However, for the extra money it comes with a few enhancements that make it more touring friendly. To start off with, the R18 Classic’s full-LED headlight is accompanied by a pair of auxiliary lights for better illumination. It also sports a large windscreen to protect from excess windblast and bugs smacking your face. Most importantly, BMW also tweaked the cushioning of the rider seat while adding a pillion seat to the package. And to complete the package, the R18 Classic also comes with a pair of saddlebags.
While all of these accessories are removable and can also be added to the standard R18, the revisions to the R18 Classic are more than just touring-friendly add-ons. The R18 Classic rides on a 16-inch wheel at the front and a straight exhaust to compensate for the saddlebags. In comparison, the R18 First Edition comes with gets a large 19-inch wheel up front and fishtail-shaped exhausts.
However, the two motorcycles come powered by the same 1802cc, boxer-twin, air/oil-cooled motor that produces 89.9bhp and 158Nm. The suspension and braking hardware on both models remain the same too. As for electronic aids, the BMW R18 Classic gets electronic cruise control as standard apart from the three ride modes, engine drag torque control, keyless start, and reverse gear that also feature on the R18 First Edition.
