- BMW R18 Classic revealed for international markets
- Gets touring-focused upgrades
- Could be launched in India next year
BMW Motorrad has unveiled a new variant of the R18 christened the R18 Classic.
The BMW R18 Classic is completely based on the R18 First Edition that is available in India. However, it gets a few enhancements that make it touring friendly. To begin with, the R18 Classic’s full-LED headlight is flanked by a pair of auxiliary lights for all those poorly-lit highways. It also gets a large windscreen that would help you cruise without the excess windblast and bugs smacking your face. Furthermore, BMW also tweaked the cushioning of the rider seat while adding a pillion seat to the package. And it also comes with a pair of saddlebags.
Notably, all of these elements are removable and can also be added to the standard R18 although the changes to the R18 Classic are more than just additional accessories. BMW Motorrad has also fitted the R18 Classic a 16-inch wheel at the front and a straight exhaust to compensate for the saddlebags. In comparison, the standard R18 gets a 19-inch front wheel and fishtail exhausts. Nevertheless, the two motorcycles use the same 1802cc, boxer-twin motor that churns out 89.9bhp and 158Nm. Even the suspension and braking on both models remain the same.
As for electronic aids, the BMW R18 Classic gets electronic cruise control as standard apart from the three ride modes, engine drag torque control, keyless start, and reverse gear that also feature on the R18. While the motorcycle will be made available for international markets soon, we expect it to debut in India sometime in 2021.
