- BMW R18 to be unveiled in the USA on 3 April
- Uses a 1800cc, motor
- Could be launched in India by 2021
The BMW R18 will make its global debut on 3 April in Austin, Texas. And with just a couple of weeks, before it is revealed, the motorcycle was spotted testing in its cruiser form once again.
To start with, the BMW R18 sports chrome on its round triple headlamp cowls, round mirrors, bar ends and levers. Further complementing its characteristics, the R18 also gets a large windscreen, soft-box panniers with retro-style buckles and uniquely designed turn indicators. The spy images reveal that the motorcycle will offer a simple, single-pod, semi-digital instrument cluster.
Nevertheless, the R18’s most talked about feature is its massive 1,800cc, boxer-twin engine; the largest displacement motor built by BMW. This engine produces 91bhp at 4750rpm and 158Nm at 3,000rpm. We can expect the R18 to come loaded with electronic aids like traction control, cruise control and ride modes.
BMW is likely to build two other variants based on this platform- a touring model as well as a roadster. However, the R18 will directly compete against various models from Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle. The manufacturer could introduce the R18 in India, sometime by 2021.
