BMW recently launched the R18 in India. The cruiser motorcycle goes up against motorcycles from Harley-Davidson as well as Indian Motorcycle. Here we list out the five major highlights of the BMW R18.
Pricing
BMW is offering the R18 in two variants- standard and First Edition. While the base version costs Rs 18.90 lakh, the First Edition is priced at Rs 21.90 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Styling
The R18 is a proper cruiser motorcycle with a low-seat, pulled back handlebars and a long wheelbase. Now, the motorcycle’s tasteful design has been inspired by the BMW R5 from 1965. Hence, the R18’s teardrop-shaped fuel tank, swingarm, and the bulbous exhausts look similar to the ones on the R5. Further adding to its retro character is the round, chrome headlamp bezel, wire-spoke wheels and the white pinstripes (on the First Edition) that are reminiscent of the motorcycle it draws inspiration from.
Engine
Powering the R18 is BMW’s biggest-ever boxer twin engine. This 1802cc motor is capable of churning out 91bhp of power and 157Nm of torque and comes mated to a shaft drive.
Features
Like most BMW motorcycles, the R18 is well-equipped with electronic aids. It gets three ride modes- Rain, Rock and Roll, ABS and stability control. And the top-spec First Edition also offers hill-start assist, heated grips and cornering lights as standard.
Cycle Parts
The BMW R18 rides on a 19-inch front wheel and 16-inch rear wheel suspended by telescopic forks up front and a cantilever strut at the rear. Meanwhile, braking duties are done by 300mm discs at both ends. The motorcycle offers a 16-litre fuel tank and tips the scale at a heft 345kg.
