BMW Motorrad launched its cruiser offering, the R18, in India a few days back. And we were fortunate enough to get our hands on the First Edition of the motorcycle for a few days. Its first ride review is already up on our website which you can read here. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at some of the most alluring pictures of the R18 from our gallery.
Amongst all the noteworthy aspects of the R18, one of the most talked-about things is its timeless styling. It doesn’t look like any other conventional cruiser from the olden days but boasts design elements that can keep you hooked on staring at it for minutes.
The styling is minimalistic but whatever body panels it incorporates, every bit and piece has been made with utmost attention-to-detail. From front to rear, the swooping and curvy design lines flow neatly all over.
The most conspicuous component on the motorcycle is the pair of chrome-finished fish tail-like exhaust which adds to its breathtaking visual aura.
Although BMW has styled it in a quintessential retro way, the bike maker has bestowed it with modern features. For instance, the old-school circular headlamp with chrome bezel houses full-LED lighting.
At the rear, there’s a pair of sleek and minuscule LED tail lamps mounted on the fender which also incorporate LED indicators at the centre.
Besides it gorgeous design, the R18’s 1,800cc, boxer-twin mill is truly a party-piece here. The protruding cylinder heads, which are nearly as wide as a small hatchback, proudly flaunt their displacement with bold ‘1,800cc’ lettering on the engine.
The R18 weighs around 345kg (kerb) and 110kg of this is contributed by its massive engine. This behemoth is capable of producing 90bhp of power and as much as 158Nm of peak torque.
BMW has also been pretty considerate about rider’s safety with electronic aids like ABS, ASC (Automatic Stability Control), Engine Brake Control and three modes- Rain, Rock and Roll.
The BMW R18 First Edition is priced at Rs 22.55 lakh (ex-showroom) and it competes against the likes of the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy and the Triumph Rocket 3.
