- Gets largest-ever boxer-twin engine built by BMW
- Inspired by retro cruisers
BMW Motorrad is scheduled to launch the R18 in India tomorrow, 19 September.
The motorcycle is likely to cost around Rs 25 lakh ex-showroom. And while it does not have any direct rival, the R18 will face competition from the Ducati Diavel 1260 and the Triumph Rocket 3 GT in the country. Coming to the details of the motorcycle, the R18 has been heavily inspired by the 1965 BMW R5. Hence, it gets a similar-looking swingarm, exhaust end, fuel tank design as well as exposed shaft drive.
Apart from the tastefully retro styling, the BMW R18 is powered by a 1802cc engine- the largest ever boxer twin motor built by BMW. This engine can produce 91bhp of power and 157Nm of torque and comes mated to a shaft drive. In terms of electronics, the R18 comes with three ride modes- Rain, Rock, and Roll and also gets hill-hold assist, heated grips, stability control, ABS as well as reverse gear as an option. BMW is also expected to offer accessories to transform the riding dynamics of the motorcycle. With the official pricing will be unveiled tomorrow, the deliveries for the BMW R18 are expected to take place by the end of September.
