BMW North America has recalled total of 870 motorcycles consisting 2013 F800GS and F700GS due to an issue with the side stand.
The side stand switch which prevents the engine from starting while the side stand is down may malfunction. BMW says the switch may become damaged, and if it malfunctions will allow the engine to run even with the side-stand down. This might directly increase the risk of a fatal accident. The motorcycles affected were manufactured from June 1 2012 through October 18 2012.
BMW Motorrad sells some of its motorcycles in India through Navnit Motors but the recall notice won’t affect any of the Indian motorcycles as they come as a completely-built-unit (CBU) from Germany. The company will be launching the F700GS in India post-monsoon and will replace the the F650GS.
