BMW Motorrad has recalled over 4,453 bikes in US over a potential side-stand switch problem which could make the engine cut-out. The recalled bikes are spanned over three ranges – maxi scooters, parallel twins and boxer motorcycles.
The C600 Sport, C650 GT, F700GS, F800GS, R1200R and the R1200GS are the models that have been affected by this recall. The company says that water can enter the side-stand switch, causing the engine to cut out as though the stand were down. An unexpected shutdown increases the risk of a crash. The affected bikes were manufactured in 2013 and the company will notify the respective owners.
Out of the affected bikes, the company sells the R1200R and the R1200GS in India. But as these bikes are imported from Germany, they won’t be affected from this recall.
