BMW Motorrad has launched its three-model S1000 sportbike range in India. The S1000 R streetfighter has been priced at Rs 16.90 lakh while the S1000 XR sports touring motorcycle retails at Rs 18.50 lakh. The company’s flagship superbike, the S1000 RR, will set you back by Rs 18.90 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
BMW Motorrad started off its litre-class superbike odyssey with a bang when it first unveiled the S1000RR in 2010, becoming the company’s halo bike in the world of track racing. Despite being late to the party, the S1000 RR proved to be equally competitive in the modern superbike arena. The 2017 S1000 RR is powered by a 999cc inline-four engine developing 199bhp and 112Nm of torque.
The BMW S1000 R is a streetfighter version of the S1000 RR, with lower spec cycle parts and a retuned engine. Designed to be more comfortable and user friendly than the S1000 RR, this bike develops 160bhp and 112Nm of torque on the same spec engine. It is available in three versions – Standard, Sport and Pro.
The BMW S1000 XR might share its moniker with the other two models over here, but it has been built around a new frame with a different swing-arm. It gets an upright riding position with a long travel suspension at both ends and a high set of handlebars. It does borrow the S1000RR’s 999cc inline-four engine, though it is available in the same state of tune as the streetfighter.
BMW Motorrad has also launched the R1200 GS range in India, priced at Rs 15.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
