- New Transcontinental bagger under development
- Built on R18 platform
- India launch next year
BMW Motorrad is working on a new motorcycle that is likely to be called the Transcontinental. The company has recently applied for trademarking this name in Europe.
The name clearly suggests that this bike when launched will be about long distance riding. And it looks like, the Transcontinental could be a bagger version of BMW’s famous R18. In fact, there are a few patent pictures of this upcoming bike leaked online.
From the pictures, it is clear that the bodywork is completely different. The fuel tank is different. The fenders, the seats and the hard panniers are new. There’s also a brand new fairing design to help the bike cut through some high speed wind. This bike is expected to have a new instrument cluster with touchscreen systems. This system could also sport GPS system. In terms of performance, expect the Transcontinental to churn out similar power figures as the R18.
We are expecting this new bagger to make its debut sometime next year as it takes about a few months to get the trademark application approved. And once that is done, expect this BMW to make its way to India sometime next year.
