- 9cento is an adventure sport motorcycle
- Is powered by a 900cc parallel twin motor
- Could be called F900XR; will rival Ducati Multistrada 950
BMW Motorrad has taken wraps off their latest creation, the 9cento concept at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. This concept motorcycle shows BMW’s away forward in the adventure sport segment.
BMW Motorrad didn’t confirm if there’s any intention of taking this motorcycle to the production line. But two things makes us believe that there will be a new adventure sport motorcycle from BMW. First, it was unveiled at the famous Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Almost every concept that BMW unveils here makes it to production. The R nineT and the K1600B Bagger are the prime example. Secondly, the name 9cento means nine hundred, making us believe that this parallel twin motorcycle will compete in the growing 900cc segment. This motorcycle is likely to be called the F900XR and will take on the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 950 and the Yamaha Tracer.
The German maker has revealed quite a few innovations with this concept. The storage space acts as a seating area for the pillion rider. The storage case is hooked into the rear carrier from above if required, and there is a powerful electromagnet that attaches the element securely to the lower section of the rear carrier. The suspension setup has been fine tuned to offer maximum comfort during long distance riding. A lot of focus has gone into fairing and windshield design to maximise the overall experience.
We’re expecting BMW Motorrad to reveal the production version of this beautiful concept sometime next year, closer to the 2019 EICMA. It’s too early to say if the production model of 9cento will make it to India, but looking at the current adventure sport scenario, this BMW is likely to arrive in the country.
