BMW introduced its radical looking electric concept which is based on the self-driving Vision Next 100 conceptat the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
At a time when emission norms are getting stricter, BMW’s Concept Link is an all-electric vehicle that ticks all the right boxes.
To power its electric motor, the scooter uses horizontally laid batteries fixed to the under floor which gives it a distinctive look. In terms of design, the scooter definitely looks futuristic, like something that’s come out of a sci-fi movie.
The Concept Link ditches the conventional instrument cluster for a head-up display that projects speed, battery status and navigation. It also features a touchscreen panel that sits between and below the handlebars to display all secondary information. The handlebars too can be fully customised with programmable buttons.
The Concept Link is named so because it links with the rider’s online accounts so that it can sync with the calendar from where you need to be at a given time and suggest an appropriate route and even play appropriate music, although we wouldn’t prefer it to play Highway to Hell by AC/DC while taking longer trips.
BMW also offers sensors, to be inserted into the riders clothing. As a result, swiping your hand over a sensor opens and closes the sliding door on the luggage compartment as well as the under-seat storage.
While concept vehicles are super fun to ogle at, the chances of them hitting the road exactly are minimal. The Concept Link gives us a realistic take on what future BMW scooters could look like, although it is hard to say given BMW’s history with concepts, where they either get to production or are never to be seen again.
But it sure would be a welcoming sight on road, parked next to BMW’s 8-series concept that debuted at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este this week.
