- BMW M1000RR homologation special breaks cover
- Race-spec version of the standard S1000RR
- First motorcycle to come out of BMW’s M division
BMW’s performance cars belonging to its M division are highly acclaimed worldwide. Now, the company has started to trickle down the expertise of its M division into motorcycles and the first result of this development is the M1000RR homologation special sportsbike.
The BMW M1000RR is based on the standard S1000RR but is more track-oriented with lighter weight, more performance, better aerodynamics and higher-spec hardware package. Starting with the engine, powering the track tool is a revised version of the 999cc, inline four motor with ShiftCam technology. BMW has made a host of internal changes such as employing shorter forged pistons, adapted combustion chambers, higher compression ratio, lighter connecting rods and rocker arms and a tweaked intake port. There’s also a lighter titanium exhaust and the resultant power output stands at a smashing 209bhp at 14,500rpm and 112.4Nm at 11,000rpm.
Another aspect which makes it a faster machine than the standard model is its 4kg lower kerb weight – 192kg. The aerodynamics are also better courtesy of carbon fibre winglets which provide a downforce of around 16.3kg at high speeds. Furthermore, the chassis has also been upgraded for sharper handling while other parts such as carbon wheels and blue anodized brake levers belong to the M division. Notably, BMW is offering a host of optional extras with the Competition pack, kit engine, lap timers and full race kit mainly for competitions.
In the European markets, the BMW M1000RR has been priced at £31,000 (approximately Rs 29 lakh). It could also be introduced in the Indian market in limited numbers and will compete against the likes of the Ducati Panigale V4 R.
